In 2025, Senior & Dickson began working with a new customer, John, who approached us with an innovative product idea inspired by watching his daughter play cricket.
John identified a common challenge during cricket practice: repeatedly bending down to collect balls. His vision was to create a product capable of collecting multiple cricket balls efficiently, eliminating the need to continuously bend down and allowing more than one or two balls to be gathered at a time.
Senior & Dickson collaborated closely with John to develop an effective solution. The initial concept involved a long storage tube combined with a ball-capture mechanism at the base. This mechanism needed to allow cricket balls to be easily pushed into the tube while preventing them from falling back out.
Using extensive industry experience, our design engineer began developing the concept using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. The resulting design incorporated spring-mounted clasps engineered to flex as a ball is pressed through the opening, securely retaining the balls inside the tube once collected.
Once the product design was finalised, Senior & Dickson progressed to the tooling phase. Our in-house engineering team designed the injection mould tool directly from the approved CAD models, ensuring the tooling was optimised for manufacturability, durability, and consistent production quality.
Leveraging our internal tooling capabilities, the tool was manufactured to precise specifications, allowing full control over quality, timelines, and design integrity throughout the process. Close collaboration between our design and manufacturing teams ensured that the transition from product concept to production tooling was seamless and efficient.
This project demonstrates the full range of Senior & Dickson’s capabilities, including:
Today, Senior & Dickson is manufacturing the product through our injection moulding operations, taking the concept from initial idea through to full production — all managed within a single, integrated partnership.
This product is now known as the PIXEMUP -"Picks 'Em Up"! and is capable of collecting Cricket, Hockey, Tennis, Rounders, Lacrosse and even Baseball - It doesn't matter what sort of ball you are training with. it will successfully collect balls ranging from nominally 57mm to 77mm in diameter. A truly unique product. Take a look at https://pixemup.com
